Calm water with clustering boats , just like a normal family, peaceful and united. |

The rain has stopped, and on the calm wave-less surface of the lake, the boats are all lined up prows facing a single point. This scene can be read in a variety of ways, but for the photographer it would appear to be a picture of the overlapping bonds of family. The reason we selected this photograph is that it is a work of rich atmosphere created by the skillful combination of all elements: the alignment of the boats, the weather conditions, image composition, etc. For the judges, this photo could be read as a representation of the "all that remains of warrior dreams" image from the haiku by Basho.(Judge:Yasutaka TANJI) |
