Macro of a Bansksia flower. Taken in the Manly War Memorial Park...a pocket of native Australian bushland in suburban Sydney and therefore \'precious\' as an area that remains as a relatively pristine environment for native flora and wildlife within a city as large as Sydney. Banksia are named after Sir Joseph Banks, the botanist, who travelled with Captain James Cook, the first white explorer to discover Australia. |

Plant as objet d'art? This is a work that makes perfect use of the functions of the macro lens. Of course there is the wonderful delineation of the object, but there is also the superb color tones and the flawless composition with careful attention paid from corner to corner. The positioning of small shadow space at the upper left and right gives a feeling of depth and shows very well the effects of close-up shooting. Shading is also used to excellent effect within the image. (Judge:Yasutaka TANJI) |
