I photographed this street scene on a trip to Vietnam in January 2008. When I took the photo, I was feeling nostalgic and I was struck by the distinctive colors which we don't see in Japan. |

I have also taken many photos of walls in Vietnam. Of all the countries of Asia, Vietnam is the most colorful. Rather than new things, it is weathered things like this that make for the most attractive photographs. I think that the Vietnamese people make very skillful use of the colors yellow and blue. Are both bicycles leaning against the wall? The kickstands on both are up. The bikes are similar, but looking closely we can find subtle differences. A variety of objects are visible, such as the flag at upper left. These are not distractions from the subject, rather they serve to give depth to the scene. (Judge:Yokogi ALAO) |
