Spreading Ones Feathers Photographer Takashi Nakano Camera used Caplio GX100
Photographer's comments
At a park featuring animals, a peacock gets a head start on spring, practicing his courtship display in January.
This was taken when I was just beginning to understand the attractions of the square format.
Reason for selection
It is wonderful the way the form and colors of the fanned feathers fill the image. This is truly a formal beauty created by the natural world. Avoiding symmetry by shifting the peacock slightly off center was a great idea. Square-format photography is totally unforgiving with respect to extraneous elements, and it is easy to end up with an ordinary image. In this case, however, the photographer has superbly overcome such pitfalls of the format to produce a highly accomplished work.
