Fine sunlight streamed into the hotel restaurant.
My attention was drawn to this flower, which seems to know its place yet strongly insist upon its own beauty and presence.
I could have moved around the spice containers, but I decided to take the picture as is, without stage direction. |

The photographer appears to have been thinking of the flower when the shutter was pushed, but I chose it because I was drawn to the atmosphere of the table. The soft light from the window and the perfect exposure create gradations of shadow that give a three-dimensional feel even to the unseen glass. It is true that the yellow flower is the focus point of the image, but it is the shadow-created table stage setting that fascinated me. |
