Digital SLR Cameras: K20D

Live view lets you capture the exact image displayed on the LCD monitor
When shooting a low- or high-angle image or using a tripod, it is often convenient to check your subject on the LCD monitor, rather than in the viewfinder. That’s why the K20D comes equipped with a live-view function. With its real-time image display, you can constantly follow the subject’s expression or movement and check the image composition on the LCD monitor, while retaining the benefits of the K20D’s functional and responsive AF system.* Since you can instantly activate the camera’s AF system with a push of the AF button, you can even preset the lens at a particular focal point and wait for the best shutter opportunity. After an image is captured, the K20D immediately returns to the live-view image.
* The live-view image is not available during AF operation.

Using the vertical and horizontal lines as a reference, you can easily check
the inclination or alignment of your subject. The AF frame can be displayed simultaneously.

With a magnified image, you can accurately focus on the subject, even when taking
macro images in the manual-focus mode. You can even shift the point of attention
to anywhere in the image field without changing the magnification.
Live-view
function and SR system combine to facilitate handheld shooting
The K20D’s advanced SR system can be activated even during live-view shooting.
They work together to deliver an extra-clear, blur-free, real-time view of your
subject on the LCD monitor, making it quick and easy to adjust the shooting angle
or pinpoint the focus.
Extra-large, high-resolution, wide-view LCD monitor is essential to live-view shooting
The K20D features an extra-large 2.7-inch color LCD monitor with approximately 230,000 dots on its back panel. Since its wide-view design assures a sharp, clear view of the on-screen image from approximately 160 degrees both vertically and horizontally, you can effortlessly check your subject and release the shutter at the perfect moment in live-view shooting, while avoiding awkward, uncomfortable positions — even when taking a low- or high-angle images.
High-performance viewfinder with glass pentaprism assures clarity and ease of focus
The
K20D’s pentaprism is made of high-grade glass material, which offers exceptional
light transmittance and refraction characteristics, while its viewfinder offers
a 0.95-times magnification and a 95-percent field of view (with a 50mm F1.4 lens
set at infinity). Coupled with the renowned Natural-Bright-Matte focusing screen,
this high-performance viewfinder not only delivers a bright, clear image with
edge-to-edge sharpness, but also makes it easy to locate the in-focus point in
both autofocus and manual-focus operations.
11-point wide-frame AF with nine cross-type sensors enhances focusing accuracy and flexibility
The
K20D features a sophisticated 11-point wide-frame autofocusing system. Of its
11 AF sensors, the nine middle ones are cross-shaped to assure pinpoint focusing
on a wide variety of subjects.
Automatic
and manual selection of the focal point
In addition to the autofocus mode, which employs all 11 sensors to capture the
subject in focus, the K20D’s AF system also offers manual selection of focal
point for specialized applications. Using the AF-point switching dial on the
camera’s back panel, you can quickly and effortlessly navigate through different
AF sensors and select the desired one for your focusing purpose.
Consecutive shooting captures high-quality images at a speed of three frames per second
Along
with the exceptional image quality made possible by approximately 14.6 effective
megapixels, the K20D provides consecutive shooting at a maximum speed of approximately
three frames per second, and up to 38 images (at Best image quality in JPEG format)
in a single sequence. It also offers two different advance speeds to synchronize
your shooting action with the subject’s movement. You can even take advantage
of the AF-Continuous mode to maintain constant focus on the subject during consecutive
shooting operation.
High-speed consecutive shooting at 21 frames per second
The K20D’s high-speed shooting mode allows you to capture up to 115 images in
a single sequence at a speed of approximately 21 frames per second, making it
possible to capture split-second action in a series of sharp, beautiful images.
Notes:
Images recorded in the high-speed shooting mode are stored as 1.6-megapixel JPEG
files, regardless of the image format in use at the time of shooting.
In the high-speed shooting mode, the mirror is locked at upward position and
a quick view is displayed on the LCD monitor during shooting.
