New HD coating

This lens uses a new-generation multicoating that reduces the reflection rate in the visible spectrum up to 50% or more than conventional multicoating. This enables the reduction of flare and ghosting for the shooting of clear, high-contrast images even under backlighting and other adverse conditions.

New round iris diaphragm

A round iris diaphragm is used to enable imaging of soft round out-of-focus (bokeh) effect for illumination, shimmering on water surfaces, and other point light sources.

Wide-angle lens equivalent to focal length of 32mm and ideal for snapshots

The new optical system design tailored specifically to digital image characteristics enables a thin body design with a thickness of only 25mm, or 32mm when the hood is attached. The focal length is equivalent to 32mm in the 35mm film format, and when combined with the pan-focus effect, makes it ideal for snapshots for capturing daily events.

High quality machined aluminum finish

All major components use a machined aluminum material, from the lens barrel to the hood and cap. This gives the body an exceptional solid feel to the touch.

Unique imaging performance found only in the Limited series.

The optical system uses hybrid aspherical lenses and a floating mechanism for providing imaging with a three-dimensional feel and high contrast, high-resolution, sharp images, and other powerful expressive capabilities found only in the Limited series of lenses.

DA lens specifically for digital SLR cameras

The image circle was designed to match the CCD size of 23.5mm×15.7mm for providing a simple lens design without an iris ring.

SP (super protect) coating for protecting the lens surface

A special coating is used on the front lens for repelling water and oils. This enables any water and oils on the lens to be easily removed for effective protection of the lens surface.

Seamless AF/MW switching operation

New AF/MF switching mechanism "Quick-Shift Focus System" for instantly switching to MF if the focus ring is turned after focusing by AF. This enables smooth operation without the need for any switching operation.

Enables filter attachment without changing the lens length

The total lens length does not change even if a 43mm filter is attached to the inner side of the hood. A 49mm filter can also be attached to the lens.
