CX4

Catch: Instantaneous response captures the moment just as you pictured it

“I have to take a picture of that.” Capture moments of inspiration just the way you want them.

Clear images shot freely from wide-angle to telephoto.
28-300 mm 10.7x optical zoom

Ricoh’s original retracting lens system made it possible to fit the high-magnification 10.7x optical wide-angle zoom lens in a thin 29.4 mm body that is both easy to carry and easy to use. This lens can handle a wide range of shooting situations, including powerful telephoto shots as well as wide-angle shooting of both expansive landscapes and interior scenes with limited distance between camera and subject. In addition, the CX3’s ability to shoot high-quality images at high sensitivity levels enables you to use telephoto photography to faithfully capture the joy, surprise, and excitement of a scene without worrying about blur.

Step zoom and auto resize zoom

The step zoom function enables you to fix the optical zoom magnification at eight steps (28 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 85 mm, 105 mm, 135 mm, 200 mm, and 300 mm equivalent). For a zoom range beyond the 10.7x optical zoom (300 mm), the auto resize zoom takes you to a maximum of 61.0x (1,710 mm equivalent)* in four steps (recorded image resized to 5M, 3M, 1M, VGA). Extracting and recording the desired portion of the image shot, auto resize zoom does not degrade image quality like digital zoom, which records the image after magnifying a portion of it up to a designated size.

  • *Image size VGA (recorded pixels: 640x480)
  • *Auto resize zoom only operates when [Picture Quality/Size] is set to 10M 4:3F or 10M 4:3N.

The camera focusing system automatically tracks moving subjects, ensuring that photographs are in focus and correctly exposed whenever you choose to press the shutter-release button. This feature is ideal for shots of active children and pets, as well as for photographs of flowers and other subjects that demand careful composition.

Subject-tracking AF
*Simulated image

Leave the camera in charge for perfect focus thanks to its multi-talented autofocus system.

The CX4’s autofocus system focuses fast and reliably no matter what the subject or how the photo is composed, ensuring that you’ll never miss a chance to take a photo.

Face-priority multi-AF

Face-priority multi-AF

If faces are detected* while photographing people, priority is given to focusing on the faces. At the same time, exposure and white balance are also optimized for the faces so you will not miss the most appealing expressions of your subjects.

  • *The faces of up to eight people can be detected.
  • *Not guaranteed to work in all photographic conditions.

Multi-target AF

Multi-target AF does high-speed consecutive shooting of five images with different focal distances determined by the camera. It is effective for scenes (such as flowers) where there is a narrow range for a sharp focus. The camera automatically decides the five focus points and does the high-speed consecutive shooting of five images while shifting the focus to each point. After shooting, you can select the image with the preferred focus.

  • *Simulated image.
  • *The continuously shot still images are recorded together as a single MP file (a file format with multiple still images in a single file). With MP file images recorded by the CX4, a selected frame can be extracted and saved as an individual JPEG image within the camera.

Pre-AF

The camera detects the optimum focus position by shifting the focus to follow subject movement even when the shutter release button is not half-pressed. Since the AF operates to match subject movement, it is possible to shoot quickly when the shutter release button is pressed.
