Thank you for purchasing the Ricoh Caplio RR10.

There are following three steps to upgrade the firmware of your Caplio RR10.
Please read procedures carefully before upgrade the firmware.

  • Step 1.Checking the firmware version of your camera
  • Step 2.Downloading the firmware from the web
  • Step 3.Upgrading the RR10 firmware

Step 1 : Checking the firmware version of your camera


At first, please check firmware version of your camera. If the firmware of your camera is the latest one, you don't need to upgrade the firmware.
  • 1) Detach a USB cable from the RR10.
  • 2) Slide the power switch and turn the camera power on while pressing both of [MENU/ENTER] button and [Shutter Release Button].(see pic1)
  • 3) Check the LCD monitor display.
    If "A:00077" is shown in the first line, you don't need to upgrade the firmware.

  • * Firmware information screen will be displayed about 5 sec.
  • * If the camera failed to display the information, slide the power switch again and turn the camera power off. Then, try the same procedure again.
<Example of the information display> : When the version is "V1.32"

Step 2: Downloading the firmware from the web


[Necessary items for firmware upgrade]

  • 1) Caplio RR10 (AC adatper converter MUST be installed)
  • 2) USB cable for RR10
  • 3) AC adapter (AC-3)


[How to download and extract the firmware]

  • 1) Download the new firmware from the website.
  • 2) Extract the download file by double-click the [rr10-xxx.exe].
Then, [Caplio RR10 Update] folder will be created automatically.

Folder configration is as follows; Caplio RR10 Update
  • |
    Firmware rel X.X.X
    |
    |-- FirmUpdate.exe
    |
    --- Segment1.bin - Segment15.bin (15 files)
* Please check "FirmUpdate.exe" file and 15 files (start from "Segment1.bin" to "Segment15.bin") are exsist in the same folder named "Firmware rel X.X.X".

Step 3 : Upgrading the RR10 firmware

[Important Notice]
  • * Be sure to install "RICOH Gate" software to the PC before upgrading the firmware.
  • * Never power the camera by battery during firmware upgrade operation. Be sure to use AC adapter.
  • * Be sure to exit "RICOH Gate" on the task bar. (Click the icon with right mouse button and select "Exit" from he menu.)
  • * Never detach nor attach USB and/or AC adapter from the camera.
  • * If another USB equipment is connected to the PC, we recommend disconnect unnecessary USB equipment during firmware update operation.
  • * In the case of the power shut down during the update, please repeat the following procedure again. If the camera will not start again, please contact your regional Ricoh Service Office.


[1. Rewrite the firmware on the RR10]


Double click extracted firmware (FirmUpdate.exe).
-Firmware installer "Caplio RR10 Firmware Update rel X.X" will start.

  • 1) If the "RICOH Gate" is still running, exit it.
    *Click the "RICOH Gate" icon on the task bar with a right mouse button and select "Exit" from the menu.
  • 2) Insert the AC Adapter Converter to the camera, then connect the AC adapter.
  • 3) Connect the USB cable directly to the camera.(pic 2)

    * Surely plug the USB cable to the camera.
    * Never use RICOH BASE.
  • 4) While pressing the [Shutter Release Button] and [DISPLAY] button, turn the camera power on.(pic 3)

    Please confirm [AF LED] is blinking. Nothing will be displayed on the LCD screen.
    *If the camera will not switch this status, turn the camera power off and try again.
    *The Shutter Release Button has two stops. Please press it fully.

  • 5 ) Press [UPDATE] button on the PC dialog box. "UPDATING..." message will appear.
    *If "Cannot connect to camera" message appears, please check USB cable connection and camera power status.
    *If "Turn the power on according to the procedure of <PREPARING TO UPDATE>" message appear, please try 4) again.
  • 6 ) "Firmware Update completed" message will appears.
  • 7 ) Turn the camera power off by disconnecting AC adapter from the camera.
    *You cannot turn the camera power off with the [POWER Switch].


[2. Confirmation]

  • 1 ) Connect the AC adapter to the camera again, then turn the camera power on.
  • 2 ) Please confirm [PC CONNECTION] will appears on the LCD monitor.
    *If the USB cable is disconnected, the camera will not switch into [PC CONNECTION] mode.
  • 3 ) Press [VERIFY] button on the PC dialog box.
    "Verifying Update" message will appears.
    *If "Turn the power on according to the procedure of <PREPARING TO UPDATE>" message appeared, turn the camera power of by disconnecting AC adapter from the camera. Then, try 1) & 2) of this section again.
  • 4 ) If "Verifying Update(100%)", "Update completed" messages are appear, please proceed next, 5).

    When
    "Failed in Update Verify"
    "Failed in Firmware Update"
    "Try the Firmware Update again"

    messages are appear, please [OK] button and repeat from [1. Rewrite the firmware on the RR10] again.

  • 5 ) Press [EXIT] button of the dialog box."Caplio RR10 Frimware Update rel X.X" installer will be exited.
  • 6 ) Turn the camera power off.
  • 7 ) Caplio RR10 firmware update will be completed.


[IMPORTANT]

  • a) Please be sure to save important data before firmware update. Data may be lost by incorrect handling by the user or by malfunction of the camera.
  • b) Data recorded on an SD memory card may be lost by malfunction or repair of the camera. Ricoh Co., Ltd. assumes no liability for damages resulting from the loss of recorded data.
