Digital SLR Cameras: K-m

K-m

Compact but fully equipped, the PENTAX K-m performs superbly in any situation

SR system

A sophisticated shake reduction system is PENTAX's solution to camera shake!

Once-in-a-lifetime shutter opportunities can be easily spoiled by camera shake. That's why the PENTAX K-m incorporates the reliable SR (Shake Reduction) system in its body, This sophisticated system offers an outstanding camera-shake compensation effect, equivalent to approximately four shutter steps.* Thanks to its in-body design, it can be coupled with any interchangeable lens and lets you capture sharp, blur-free images even under demanding photographic conditions prone to camera shake — such as when using a telephoto lens, or when shooting a sunset or indoor scene with the incident light only.

* The degree of shake-reduction effect may vary, depending on the lens used and/or the photographic conditions. Users are advised to turn the SR system off when using the PENTAX K-m on a tripod.

Auto sensitivity control up to ISO 3200

Super-high sensitivity minimizes subject shake!

When capturing a human subject or pet under poor lighting conditions, subject shake is always a concern. In these situations, however, the PENTAX K-m automatically raises the sensitivity to as high as ISO 3200 to minimize subject shake with a faster shutter speed. Coupled with the SR system, you can capture sharp, true-to-life images without the use of a flash, while holding annoying digital noise to a minimum even at such high-sensitivity settings.

No more blurred pictures!

Consecutive shooting at approx. 3.5 frames per second

High-speed 3.5-frames-per-second consecutive shooting preserves precious shutter opportunities!

The PENTAX K-m captures a sequence of subject movements, up to five images (at BEST image quality in JPEG format), at a speed of approximately 3.5 frames per second.

Viewfinder

A large, bright viewfinder assures a clear view of the subject!

When you want to capture a fast-moving subject, such as a child at play or a pet running around, you need to keep your eye on the subject through the optical viewfinder. That's why the PENTAX K-m's viewfinder is designed to deliver a sharp, clear view of the subject, allowing you to catch fleeing, once-in-a-lifetime shutter opportunities at the best possible moment.

Built-in auto flash

Leave complicated flash applications to the camera!

In poor lighting conditions, the PENTAX K-m's built-in flash automatically pops up and makes a discharge at shutter release, assuring the best results. It even features advanced flash applications, such as slow-shutter-speed synchronization.

5-point wide-frame autofocusing

Simply point the lens at the subject for pinpoint focus!

The PENTAX K-m features a reliable 5-point autofocus system. Since the five sensors are laid out to cover a large part of the image field, you can capture the subject in sharp focus and with great accuracy, even when it is positioned off center. The spot focus mode is also available for subjects positioned at the center of the image field.

16-segment multi-pattern metering

Unfailing exposure control, even in high-contrast and back-lit scenes

The PENTAX K-m's sophisticated metering system divides the image field into 16 segments to assess the lighting condition with optimum accuracy and automatically adjust exposure settings. This system allows you to produce beautiful, well-balanced images, even under confusing lighting conditions such as backlighting. Conventional center-weighted metering and pinpoint spot metering are also available to accommodate individual preferences.

AF button

Pushbutton control of AF or AE lock function

You can assign one of two functions to the AF button to facilitate your camera operations. When you assign the autofocus function to it, you can fix focus at a desired distance in advance at a push of this button, then wait for the shutter opportunity to arrive. Or, by choosing the AE lock function, you fix the exposure settings in advance, and change the image composition at will. You can also use this button simply to preset focus on the subject, if you feel uncomfortable about pressing the shutter release button halfway down.

Technological excellence, highlighted by 10.2-effective-megapixels image quality and high-speed data processing

Measuring 23.5 millimeters by 15.7 millimeters, the PENTAX K-m's large CCD image sensor is the key to high-quality image reproduction. It boasts approximately 10.2 effective megapixels to assure beautiful, high-resolution images rich in gradation — all the way from highlights to shadows. The image data collected by this high-performance image sensor is processed by the PENTAX-original PRIME (PENTAX Real Image Engine), the core of the camera’s high-speed, high-accuracy image-processing operation.
