- 2. Making good use of bokeh
If your camera has a zoom lens, as you lengthen the focal length by zooming to the telephoto side, you will narrow the background area and increase bokeh size. This method works well for creating photographs in which the background is simplified as much as possible so that the subject person stands out.
When shooting telephoto, hand-motion blur tends to occur so for blur-free photos, take a strong stance and use the camera shake correction function.
The closer you get to the subject, the closer the focus position gets, and this results in larger bokeh in the background. Even if you put a lot of distance between subject and background, the background will still have considerable bokeh. With some cameras, if you get too close, the camera will not focus unless the macro setting is on, so when you are shooting take care concerning how close it is possible to get.
Among the GXR units, there are some that use an APS-C size sensor. The size of the portion of the sensor that reproduces the scene the image is much larger than that of a standard compact camera. Because the sensor is large, it gives a larger amount of bokeh. Despite the compact size of the GXR, the fact that it uses a sensor size equal to an SLR means that it can produce bokeh equal to that of an SLR. If you are looking to make active use of bokeh in your photographs, don't forget that one of your options is to use these GXR units!
