Urban nightscapes

Shooting groups of glittering high-rise buildings is one of the great joys of shooting urban nightscapes. Rather than shooting on days off, shooting on weekdays when the windows are lit up will result in a more brilliant shot of the group of buildings. It can also be interesting to experiment with the various white balance settings, like Daylight, Incandescent, and Fluorescent. If the composition has the group of buildings at an uneven angle, the picture will seem strange, so try using the camera's built-in electronic level to align the shot horizontally.

Buildings that are lit up also make good subjects for nightscapes. Bridges, famous places, and castles are often lit up, so try looking for such places when you go out. Whether they are lit up just for a particular season or year-round, you can run into potential subjects in any number of places. For various reasons, the times and schedules for when these places will be lit up often change, so in order not to be disappointed when you go out, it's best to look into the details beforehand.

Factory and junction nightscapes

Of the nightscapes that are popular to shoot these days, factories and junctions are definitely two of them. Chemical factories and iron mills are often in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so you can often get interesting pictures if you visit one of these places late at night. Junction nightscapes can bring together elevated roads, streetlights, and the trails of lights coming from passing cars together in a way that gives them an aspect of near-future urban landscapes, making them cool nightscape pictures that can be taken easily.
