Digital Compact Camera: Optio A30

Thanks to the incorporation of a large 1/1.8-inch CCD image sensor with an extra-wide
light-sensitive area, the Optio A30 features an astonishing 10 effective megapixels
to produce rich-graduation, fine-detailed images. It allows you to enlarge your
favorite images into prints as large as 30cm x 40mm (10" x 14") or view them
comfortably on a large TV screen without sacrificing image quality or losing
details.
Metered Manual Mode for More Creative Expressions
In addition to a set of convenient shooting modes, the Optio A30 offers
Shutter-Priority AE and Metered Manual modes to assure you greater control over
exposure settings. Combined with 10-megapixel image quality, these creative modes
let you produce images that are more faithful to your creative intentions.

The Optio A30 incorporates the PENTAX-original CCD-shift-type SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism to effectively compensate for unwanted camera shake at shutter release. As a result, you can capture sharply focused images free of camera shake every time — even with such tricky subjects as sunset scenes and indoor portraiture.

When the auto flash is purposely turned off for indoor and sunset scenes, or due to restrictions in places such as museums and galleries, the Optio A30’s Digital SR (Shake Reduction) mode automatically increases sensitivity up to ISO 3200* to allow the use of higher shutter speeds. This auto sensitivity control effectively reduces the possibility of blurred subjects, while faithfully reproducing the prevailing atmosphere.
* When the Digital SR mode is selected, the camera’s sensitivity is automatically shifted up to ISO 3200 even in the auto sensitivity control mode, while its image size is fixed at 5M (2592 x 1944 pixels).

The Optio A30 also incorporates a Movie SR (Shake Reduction) mode** to automatically detect and digitally correct the adverse effects of camera shake in movie recording. This sophisticated mode allows you to capture smooth, blur-free movie clips at 30 frames per second in the sophisticated DivX® MPEG-4 recording format,*** assuring both high-quality movie recording and extended recording time.
** When the digital Movie SR mode is selected, the field of view becomes narrower than normal. This mode cannot be used in combination with the SR mechanism.
*** The Optio A30 does not support movie playback on Macintosh operating systems.

The Optio A30 features the new-generation digital zoom system called Intelligent Zoom. It allows you to magnify the subject up to approximately 16.3 times at the image quality equivalent to optical zoom lenses.

The Optio A30 comes equipped with an LCD booster, which brightens the image displayed on the large LCD monitor through a simple operation. This function is particularly useful in outdoor shooting under strong sunshine.
Face-Recognition AF & AE
for Sharply Focused, Beautifully Exposed Faces
The Optio A30 features the PENTAX-original Face-Recognition AF & AE function, which automatically detects the position and lighting condition of the subject’s face to assure sharp focus and proper exposure. This sophisticated function is automatically activated in the Portrait or Kids shooting mode to reproduce smooth, natural skin tones.
Auto-Tracking AF
to Capture the Once-in-a-Lifetime Action of an Moving Subject
Once the subject is captured in focus, the Optio A30’s auto-tracking AF mode keeps it in crisp focus, even when it moves around in the image field. By eliminating the need for frequent refocusing, it allows you to effortlessly capture the decisive scene — even with an unpredictable pet or child.

On-Screen Mode Palettes
for Speedy Selection of Shooting and Playback Modes

The Optio A30’s shooting mode palette offers an array of user-friendly, scene-specific shooting modes. Just select the icon corresponding to the desired shooting mode on this palette, and the Optio A30 takes care of the rest by optimizing all settings for that particular subject or scene.
The Optio A30’s playback mode palette provides a set of icons corresponding to image-editing and photo-retouching functions available after shooting, including trimming and resizing tools and digital filters. This accessible palette lets you select the desired function easily and swiftly.
VGA and MPEG-4 Formats
for High-Quality Movie Clips and Extended Movie Recording
The Optio A30 employs the advanced VGA recording format to produce high-quality, blur-free movie clips at 30 frames per second and at sizes up to 640 x 480 pixels, while the high-compression MPEG-4 format considerably extends recording time without sacrificing image quality.
Innovative Sliding Lens System
for Reduced Body Size

The key to the Optio A30’s compact, slim body is the PENTAX-original Sliding Lens System, which stores the zoom lens in two vertical steps to reduce the overall camera size.
Digital
Filters
for Artistic Visual Expressions
Equipped with a variety of digital filters, including black & white, sepia, color, soft and illustration, the Optio A30 lets you add artistic touches to your images, or create completely different atmospheres, both during and after shooting.
A
Choice of Photo Frames
to Match the Occasion
The Optio A30 lets you create an eye-catching framed image with great ease, either by displaying your choice of frame on the LCD screen during shooting or by adding the most fitting frame to a recorded image. You can also replace these frames by downloading new ones from the PENTAX Web site.
World-Time and Calendar Functions
for On-the-Road Convenience

The Optio A30’s built-in clock is a handy tool on your overseas trips, since it provides real-time display of standard time in 75 cities in 28 time zones around the world. You can even check the time difference between your hometown and travel destination on the menu screen.

Since the Optio A30’s calendar function automatically files captured images into day-by-day folders, you can instantly recall the images recorded on a particular day by selecting that day on the calendar screen. This feature allows you to keep accurate track of a trip or past events.
