PENTAX K-01 lens-interchangeable digital camera wins
Product Design 2012 at Germany's Red Dot Design Award

PENTAX RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. is pleased to announce that the PENTAX K-01 lens-interchangeable digital camera, designed by world-renowned industrial designer Marc Newson and launched in March 2012, has been selected a Product Design 2012 winner at the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in Germany.

Sponsored by Nordrhein Westfalen Design Center in Germany, the Red Dot Design Award is one of the world’s most prestigious design awards. Each year, products launched on the market over the previous two years are judged by nine different criteria, including degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability and ecological compatibility. This year, the PENTAX K-01 was selected from 4,515 applications submitted from 58 countries as one of the Product Design winners.

The PENTAX K-01 is a lens-interchangeable digital camera with outstanding specifications, such as super-high-resolution image quality supported by approximately 16.28 effective megapixels, a top sensitivity of ISO 25600, and full HD video recording capability. Designed by world-famous industrial designer Marc Newson, its clean, geometric body signifies a bold move by PENTAX to create a truly original and innovative design. By incorporating the K mount — a lens mount extremely popular from the days of film cameras — PENTAX allows the user to mount any one of 214 lenses (as of April 2, 2012) onto the K-01 camera body, assuring endless possibilities in visual expression.
