Shooting Function

* For items other than those listed below, please refer to the GRIII/GRIIIx FAQ

What does HDF means?

It stands for Highlight Diffusion Filter.
This model is equipped with filters that produce special effects, which are printed using RICOH's long-cultivated printing technology.
What are the effect (Feature) of HDF?

The effect of this filter is to diffuse highlight areas and create a blurred effect along the image's edges.
It emphasizes light, but it also produces a softer expression, allowing for an emotional photographic expression similar to film photography or movies.

Example: HDF [OFF] in the shooting settings in the still image setting menu.

Example: HDF [ON] in the shooting settings in the still image setting menu.
When a point of light source is largely blurred, a thin pattern appears in the blurred areas.
 What is this thin pattern?

When shooting at close range, such as during macro shooting and in scenes where the background point light source appears as a large “ball blur”, HDF printing pattern may be reflected inside of the ball blur.

Example: HDF [OFF] in the shooting settings in the still image setting menu.

Example: HDF [ON] in the shooting settings in the still image setting menu.
There is no [ND Filter] item in the exposure settings in the still image setting menu.

HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter) is installed in the mechanism where ND filter is installed in GR III / GR IIIx.
For this reason, a new item [HDF] has created in the setting menu, instead of [ND Filter].
*In strong-light shooting conditions or with fairly bright subjects, a wide aperture may result in overexposure.
In this case, it is recommended that the aperture value be increased to an appropriate value and the image be taken at a smaller aperture.
Can I take flash photography?

An external flash (Optional Accessories) can be attached for flash photography.
The following external flashes can be used
PENTAX AF540FGZ / PENTAX AF540FGZII / PENTAX AF360FGZ / PENTAX AF360FGZII / PENTAX AF201FG
