RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. wishes to announce the release of Firmware Update Software Version 1.20 for GR IV.

Applicable Models: RICOH GR IV / RICOH GR IV HDF

Firmware in this document is the software that runs inside digital cameras.

Changes to V1.20

<Improved Contents>

• The “AF Point” option has been added to Customize Settings → Memory. When the check mark is removed from “AF Point” (set to Off), the focus point returns to the center position when the camera is turned off and then on again.
  *For Zone Select AF, Select AF, Pinpoint AF, Tracking AF, and Continuous AF:
  When the check mark is selected, the camera retains the position of the selected focus point, as before.
  

• Added [Restore User Mode Settings] to [1] USER Mode under Menu > Customize Settings.
  

  When [Restore on Power Off] is selected, the settings registered in User Mode will be restored when the camera is turned off and then turned on again.
  

  When [Do Not Restore on Power Off] is selected, the shooting settings in effect immediately before the camera is turned off will be retained when the camera is turned on again.
  

• Added [Connection While Power Off] to the Wireless Communication Settings under Menu > Setup > [6] Communication Settings.
  You can select [On] or [Off] for [Connection While Power Off].
  The screen below shows the Wireless Communication Settings selected under Menu > Setup > [6] Communication Settings.
  
  Pressing the Direct Key [Drive/Right] button on the screen above displays the items as shown on the screen below, allowing you to select [On] or [Off] for [Connection While Power Off].

  
  When [Connection While Power Off] is set to [On] on the screen above:
  The camera remains in a standby state, continuously waiting to receive signals from the smart device app GR WORLD.
  Even when the camera is turned off, you can turn it on from the smart device app.
  Pressing the Direct Key [Drive/Right] button on the screen above displays the screen below.
  
  On this screen, select [Off] using the Direct Key and press the OK button to display the screen below.

  
  When [Connection While Power Off] is set to [Off] on the screen above:
  The camera will no longer accept any signals sent from the smart device app GR WORLD, helping to reduce battery consumption.
  To turn the camera on again, press the power button on the camera.

• Added the certification mark required for use in India.
• You can now change the end screen displayed when the camera is turned off using the smart device app GR WORLD.
• Improved stability for general performance.
  • Applying this update to the GR IV will also include all features and changes introduced in version 1.11 and earlier.
  • Once this update is applied, it is not possible to revert to a previous firmware version.

Changes to V1.11

<Improved Contents>

• The electronic shutter function introduced in the GR IV HDF has been added to the GR IV. Shooting is possible at F2.8 (wide open) with shutter speeds of up to 1/16000 seconds. Even in bright environments, proper exposure can be achieved when shooting near the aperture’s wide-open setting.
  • When the aperture is set between F2.8 and F4.0, the mechanical lens shutter is used at shutter speeds of 1/2500 seconds or slower, and the electronic shutter is used at speeds from 1/3200 to 1/16000 seconds.
  • When the aperture is set between F4.5 and F5.0, shutter speeds of 1/3200 seconds or slower use the mechanical lens shutter, while speeds from 1/4000 to 1/16000 seconds use the electronic shutter.
  • When the aperture is set between F5.6 and F16, shutter speeds of 1/4000 seconds or slower use the mechanical lens shutter, while speeds from 1/5000 to 1/16000 seconds use the electronic shutter.
  • When using the electronic shutter, a “rolling shutter effect” may occur, causing fast moving subjects—such as trains, cars, or sports scenes—to appear slanted or to be recorded with circular distortion.
• Improved stability for general performance.
  • Applying this update to the GR IV will also include all features and changes introduced in version 1.04 and earlier.
  • Once this update is applied, it is not possible to revert to a previous firmware version.

Changes to V1.04

• Wireless communication will now automatically turn off when the battery is depleted to prevent battery drain.
• Charging control has been improved to reduce battery degradation and ensure greater safety and stability.
• Improved the pairing guidance shown when registering a camera to the 'GR WORLD' app for smart devices.
• Improved stability for general performance.
  • All of these improvements are designed to enhance your experience. Please update your firmware.

Changes to V1.03

<Improved Contents>

• A certification mark approved for use in Malaysia has been added on Certification Marks screen.
• The OSS license has been updated.
  • We previously announced the release of version 1.02, which complies with the Malaysian certification mark. However, due to updates to the OSS license, we are now releasing it as version 1.03.

[Notice]
If your firmware version has already been updated to version 1.03 via the firmware update service provided at GR event venues, the changes described here have already been applied.
If you attempt to update to firmware version 1.03 when your device is already running version 1.03, an error message saying “Update failed” may appear on the rear LCD screen.
This is not a malfunction or defect.
Before proceeding with this update, please check your current firmware version using the “Firmware Version Confirmation Procedure” described in the “Installation Method” section.

Caution

• Only users of the RICOH GR IV and RICOH GR IV HDF may download this firmware update.

How to check version

1. [1] Turn ON the camera.
2. [2] Press MENU button.
3. [3] Operate 4-way button and display [Camera Information] of [Setup menus]
4. [4] Operate 4-way button and select [Camera Information] then press 4-way button right.
5. [5] The firmware version for camera is displayed on the [Camera Information] screen.

Preparation of update

• GR IV camera body.
• Blank, formatted microSD card. (formatted by GR IV) (64MB or more)
• Computer with a microSD card slot.
  *If the computer does not have a microSD card slot, you will need to use the microSD card adapter that is usually included with the microSD card, or a microSD card reader/writer.
• Fully charged battery (DB-120) or AC adapter kit K-AC166J.
  *Be sure to use fully charged battery If the camera turns off during updating due to lack of battery power, the camera will become inoperable. If this happens, a charge will be made for repairs even if within the warranty period.

Firmware Update Methods

• The firmware can be updated using the GR WORLD smartphone application (version 1.4.0 or later) or by using a microSD card.

Updating Procedure

1. [1] Provide a formatted microSD memory card for the update software.
   The download file is self-extracting. The following file is extracted.
   • Fwdc248b.bin: This is the updated firmware
     Copy the above Firmware file [fwdc248b.bin] to the root directory in the microSD card.
     
2. [2] Insert the battery into the camera and confirm the battery is full by battery level indicator then turn the camera off.
3. [3] Insert the update microSD card (prepared in step 1) into the camera and close card cover.
4. [4] Turn the camera power on while pressing [Menu] button.
5. [5] [Update the camera firmware] is displayed
   Select [Execute] by 4-way button and press [OK] button.
6. [6] The firmware update will start, and [Updating] is displayed.
   *Do not turn OFF the camera while updating.
7. [7] When update is completed, “Update completed” will be displayed
8. [8] Turn OFF the camera and remove the microSD card from camera.
   *Confirm the version of firmware with above [How to check version].
   [Caution]
   When updating is finished, the update microSD card still contains the Firmware file.
   If you want to use this card to take pictures, format the card by the camera to delete firmware file first.

The customer (hereinafter "the user") shall verify the following items below related to the use of the licensed software supplied to the user by RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. The download starts when you press "I agree. Start download." on this software license agreement.
