Now we hope you feel the distinct camera we truly believe in.
Medium Format Digital Camera and 35 mm Full-Frame Camera

The world of mastery offered by medium format digital imaging far outperforms 35mm full-frame cameras.

Effective Pixels, Image Sensor Size, ISO Sensitivity

Professional photographers will appreciate the extended image area offered by the PENTAX 645Z, which offers a distinct perspective not found in full frame cameras.

Awe inspiring, true-to-life detail is attained by combining premium resolution, massive sensor size and an expansive sensitivity range. This combination far exceeds the expectations of full frame cameras and produces brilliant results only experienced with medium format photography.

Faithfully reproduce the atmosphere of the scene

Faithfully reproduce the atmosphere of the scene

In this scene, a slim, young model sits on a motorcycle in a dim room. There is a detailed mix of natural elements including tree branches and flowers and synthetic objects such as books and architecture. Each element is reproduced with a three dimensional richness. The PENTAX 645Z faithfully captures the atmosphere of the scene including the model’s facial expression and site line, the fall of the skirt, subtle blue and red shading in the flowers, and the chaotic detail of the tree branches. There is depth and separation in the green leaves and aged boards of the wood floor. Each leaf is clearly defined, and detail can be found on the rough wood floor throughout the image.

The detailed edge-to-edge performance of the 645Z can be seen in this image where the model looks into the far distance with a pensive expression. Every detail is perfectly captured, from the lips of the model to the texture of the veil. The pink shine and gloss of the models lips are almost touchable. The gauziness of the veil and the silkiness of the ribbon are realistically reproduced. What at first appears to be a black background resolves into hazy and colorful detail upon study. There is so much depth you feel you could step into the image.

Uncompromising image processing technology

Uncompromising image processing technology

RICOH IMAGING’s uncompromising image processing technology allows the realistic capture of not only the reflective panes of glass and blue sky, but also the matte texture and uneven detail of the concrete structure in the image. Another example of the three dimensional depth captured with the 645Z can be discovered in even the smallest detail, such as the bolts in the shadowed area of the image, where a full-frame camera would have given flat results.

Due to the size of the sensor, the 645Z utilizes lenses with a longer focal length and larger diameter when compared to full frame lenses with an equivalent field-of-view. The result is that in identical conditions, the higher resolving power of the 645Z lenses sends significantly more detailed information to the image sensor than a full frame lens. This superior image detail is perfectly captured with the 645Z’s 51,400,000 pixels.

The hyper resolution of the 645Z coupled with state-of-the-art image processing results in images with more three dimensional depth and detail than can ever be captured with a full frame camera sensor.
