This is not limited to just shooting foliage, but to take good pictures requires good timing. This is not to say that the best time to shoot is when the leaves are at their reddest. The gradations in leaves as they are changing colors are also quite beautiful. It is also important to time the shots for when the light is right. And if you can time it so that you can get both the foliage and the first snow, then you will be able to get some really great pictures.
