iF was founded in Germany in 1953 to provide a venue for exchanges in international industrial design. Its activities include international design competitions (iF awards), planning and holding design exhibitions in Germany and other countries, publishing the iF yearbook, and running the iF members’ organization.


	The international design competition (iF awards) was first held in 1954, and it has come to be seen by designers and companies worldwide as one of the most authoritative awards internationally in the industrial design field. The competition draws more than 2,000 entries from over 30 countries every year.
