01Live View function, with pushbutton switching to standby mode
With a single push of the LV (Live View) button located on the back of the camera body, you can instantly switch from viewfinder shooting to live-view shooting. Since all camera settings you have used during viewfinder shooting — ranging from shooting and finishing-touch modes to image-composition fine-adjustment and digital level functions — are retained, you can take full advantage of all these features while viewing the subject image on the LCD monitor.
02Much-improved, high-speed Contrast AF mode in live-view shooting
In addition to the standard phase-matching AF mode available during viewfinder shooting, the K-5 also offers Contrast AF and Face Recognition AF (Contrast AF combined with a face recognition function) modes during live-view shooting. Thanks to the adoption of a new AF algorithm, the K-5 offers much-improved, high-speed Contrast AF operation, assuring quick, pinpoint focus on the subject.
03Grid display to assist efficient, intuitive framing
During live-view shooting, the K-5 can display three different grid patterns: Golden Section, providing the ideal, most stable segmentation pattern; 16 Segment, facilitating precise alignment of horizontal and vertical lines; and Scale, frequently used in fixed-point observation and aerial/astronomic photography. By using any of these grids as a guideline, you can frame your image more efficiently and intuitively.
04Full HD movie recording for high-resolution, 1920x1080-pixels movie clips
When you set the mode dial to Movie position, the K-5 displays a movie-exclusive live-view screen on its LCD monitor. Using such resources as high sensitivity, lens characteristics and bokeh (out-of-focus effect), you can experience the high-quality movie recording available only with digital SLR cameras. Since the K-5’s Full HD recording capability captures beautiful movie clips at 1920x 1080 pixels, your precious memories are preserved in high-definition movies, and can be played back faithfully even on a large-screen TV monitor in your living room.
05Various visual effects made available for creative movie production
During movie recording, the K-5 provides an array of creative tools — not only conventional custom-image modes, but also the new Cross Process mode and an array of digital filters. Using these tools, you can add desired tones and contrasts to your movie to dramatize the atmosphere of a specific scene or faithfully depict the impressions you felt during shooting. The K-5 simplifies high-quality movie production, while eliminating the need for extensive editing knowledge and expertise, or a high-performance PC.
06Stereo sound recording (with an external microphone) to recreate a lively, realistic sound field
The K-5’s built-in microphone provides monaural sound for your movies, but you can also add an external microphone for stereo recordings. This is especially handy when you want to minimize camera operation sounds (such as the AF in-focus signal and diaphragm driving noise) or when you want more dramatic, lively sounds.
07Frame editing functions to facilitate movie production
Since the K-5 allows you to segment a recorded movie clip or remove unwanted sections while viewing the clip on the LCD monitor, you can edit movies swiftly and effortlessly without the help of a personal computer. Since edited movie clips can be saved as separate files, you can edit the original movie file over and over again. You can even pick a single frame of a movie clip and save it as a separate JPEG-format file.
