K-5

Digital SLR Camera: K-5

An assortment of creative features makes advanced photography simple and effortless

01New-generation digital level to detect and display even a vertical tilt

Unlike its predecessor, which showed only the horizontal tilt of the camera, the K-5’s upgraded digital level can also detect and display the vertical tilt.* This helps you to frame the image more precisely and efficiently, especially when a base line is not evident, as with landscapes and nightscapes, or when you want to keep an accurate record of the subject’s proportions.

* The vertical tilt is not indicated on the bar-graphs of the viewfinder and the LCD panel.

02Image-composition fine-adjustment function to minimize tripod head adjustments

While the K-5 is mounted on a tripod, this unique function lets you easily make minute adjustment to image composition and compensate for the camera’s tilt, by shifting the image sensor along the X and Y axes and/or rotating it. Using the camera’s four-way controller, you can shift the image sensor by as much as ±1.5 millimeters each along the X and Y axes. Using the rear electronic dial, you can even rotate it up to ±1 degree. Thanks to this function, you can adjust the image composition more quickly and react more swiftly to changing scenes than by repositioning the tripod head.

03Auto level compensation function for hands-off adjustment of horizontal inclination

The PENTAX-designed auto level compensation function compensates for the camera’s horizontal inclination by automatically rotating the image sensor (by up to ±2 degrees**) to a level position. Making minute level adjustment simple and automatically, this user-friendly function is useful not only in handheld shooting, but also when shooting with a tripod.

** When the camera’s SR system is activated, the maximum compensation angle is ±1°.

04High-performance viewfinder with a 100-percent field of view, assuring a clear view of the entire image field

The ideal viewfinder would provide a 100-percent field of view and a high magnification, so that it gives the photographer a clear, bright view of the entire image field with all types of subjects. For this reason, the K-5’s high-performance viewfinder combines a high-grade glass pentaprism, high-performance finder optics and an advanced SR mechanism to assure a 100-percent field of view and an approximately 0.92-times magnification (with a 50mm F1.4 lens set at infinity). With the subject appearing larger, sharper and brighter in the viewfinder, shooting is more enjoyable and comfortable, without eye fatigue.

05Button/dial customization to personalize the K-5

You can assign desired functions to various controls — including the front/rear electronic dials, AF button and preview lever — to accommodate your preferences. The K-5 also has a RAW/Fx button, which is more functional than the conventional RAW button, because it can be programmed to instantly recall a frequently used function with pushbutton ease — for instance, a digital level or image-composition fine-adjustment function.

06User-mode memory function to register theme-specific settings

Since the K-5 lets you register up to five user modes, you can assign your preferred camera settings, such as exposure and custom-image modes, to each theme-specific user mode and save the time and trouble of resetting the camera before every shooting session. You can also register up to three manual white-balance settings, making you better prepared for shootings under the same light source.

07Compact, high-density body design — the proof of legacy and evolution

To optimize its operability and portability, the K-5 packages a host of state-of-the-art functions and user-friendly features in a compact, easy-to-hold body. Thanks to complete review and fine-tuning of the design and positioning of frequently used controls, the K-5 is designed to be more maneuverable and operable than its predecessors.
