Digital SLR Cameras: K200D

K200D
Multi-mode exposure system gives greater flexibility in creative control

Other exposure modes

Addition of the new Sv mode to the conventional Programmed AE, Tv and Av modes makes you better equipped for different situations

One of the most distinctive benefits of digital SLR cameras is their ability to let you freely decide an aperture/shutter-speed combination to faithfully reflect your creative intentions in your images. The K200D offers six different exposure modes to maximize this benefit for all photographers — especially for advanced photographers. The Sv (Sensitivity-Priority) mode, which allows you to shift the ISO sensitivity setting frame by frame, adds a new option to your creativity.

P: Programmed AE mode

The K200D automatically determines the optimum aperture/shutter-speed combination based on its standard program line, allowing you to concentrate on your shutter chance.

Sv: Sensitivity-Priority mode

This mode lets you select the desired ISO sensitivity for each frame between ISO 100 and ISO 1600 via an electronic dial.

Tv: Shutter-Priority AE mode

This mode lets you select the desired shutter speed via an electronic dial, either freezing a fast-moving subject with a fast shutter speed, or stretching a trace of light across the image field with a slow shutter speed.

Av: Aperture-Priority AE mode

This mode lets you control the depth of field at will by selecting the desired aperture — either narrowing it down to throw both the foreground and background out of focus, or extending it for edge-to-edge sharpness.

M: Metered Manual mode

This mode lets you manually select both aperture and shutter speed for total creative control. The K200D’s viewfinder displays the difference between the proper exposure level and the user-selected exposure level to assist you in making the exposure decision.

B: Bulb mode

This mode keeps the shutter open for a fixed length of time to capture beautiful images of starry skies, fireworks and nightscapes.

RAW buttonRAW button offers instant switching of recording format with image-customization function

Although the RAW recording format provides greater flexibility in post-shooting image editing, it demands a greater image size and, consequently, means a smaller number of images on a single memory card. The K200D’s RAW button comes handy because, when shooting in the JPEG format, you can simultaneously record both RAW- and JPEG-format images with a single pushbutton action. As a result, you can more efficiently use your recording media, such as SD memory cards.

Three distinctive metering modes, including 16-segment multi-pattern metering, assure optimum exposure under complex lighting conditions

Every photographer has encountered some complicated lighting conditions, such as an intricate pattern of highlights and shadows, or a subject set against an extremely bright background. Even in such conditions, the K200D’s sophisticated 16-segment multi-pattern metering assures proper exposure on the subject to produce beautiful, well-balanced images. The K200D also offers conventional center-weighted metering and special-purpose spot metering for a choice of the metering mode that best suits particular lighting conditions and your creative intentions.

Auto bracketing lets you choose the best image from three varying exposures

The K200D’s auto bracketing function lets you automatically capture a subject at three different exposure levels with a single push of the shutter release button. Since you can capture a set of underexposed, normal and overexposed images even under confusing lighting conditions, you can simply select the best one later. You can also change the bracketing order to your preference via a custom function.
