Digital SLR Camera: K-7

K-7: A true performer inheriting the legacy of PENTAX masterpieces

Translating photographic sensibilities into artistic expression

Auto sensitivity control from ISO 100 to ISO 6400,
with user-selectable options

The K-7 lets you select the desired ISO sensitivity from ISO 100 to ISO 3200 (or ISO 6400 via a custom function). Or you can choose the auto sensitivity control mode, which also lets you set the auto control range by selecting the minimum and maximum ISO sensitivities, as well as the timing of the sensitivity jump to the next level. All of this is intended to accommodate different photographic themes or shooting styles. This means that the K-7 responds faithfully to the photographer's creative intentions, without sacrificing the convenience of automatic operation in spontaneous shooting.

Note: The default for the K-7 auto sensitivity control range is the ISO 100 to ISO 800 range.

Highest shutter speed of 1/8000 second
to freeze fast motion

When you want to use the largest aperture possible of a large-aperture lens against strong backlight or diagonal light, or when you want to freeze the split-second action of a fast-moving subject, simply select the top shutter speed of 1/8000 second. This high shutter speed provides greater freedom in creative photography.

PENTAX-developed Hyper Control system for flexible,
effortless manipulation of light and shadow

The K-7 is equipped with the PENTAX-original Hyper Program and Hyper Manual modes, features that have been widely acclaimed by photographers since the days of film cameras. With simple fingertip control of the front and rear e-dials, these innovative modes let you manipulate the depth of field, express the energy and liveliness of a subject, and find the optimum exposure level for a particular subject or scene, all with great ease and flexibility.

The K-7 even features a lock mechanism on its mode dial to prevent accidental shift of exposure modes.

Fine sharpness mode
to better define subject details

The PENTAX-developed fine sharpness mode has received wide acclaim from discerning photographers. Unlike conventional sharpness-control options, it intensifies the image's sharpness level and gives natural, smooth outlines to the subject without thickening or spoiling the outlines. By assuring edge-to-edge sharpness, it makes the image appear more true-to-life and livelier — perfect for making large-size prints and drastic image trimming.

Notes:
• The fine sharpness mode can be selected via the custom image setting menu during shooting.
• With RAW-format images, the fine sharpness mode can be selected during the in-body RAW-data development process.
• The fine sharpness mode cannot be selected when the RAW-data development process is made on a personal computer using PENTAX Digital Camera Utility 4 software.

Fine image-composition adjustment and auto level compensation for high-precision framing and effortless adjustment of horizontal alignment

The K-7 lets you make minute adjustment to image composition when it set on a tripod. This unique function is made possible by the sophisticated SR unit, whose position can be adjusted with great accuracy. As a result, you can quickly and effortlessly make final, minute adjustment of image composition and horizontal alignment while checking the live-view image on the monitor.

The auto level compensation function is another unique feature, developed as an adaptation of the image-composition fine-adjustment function. During handheld shooting, the K-7 automatically detects the camera's inclination and compensates for it by shifting the image sensor to a level position.

Notes:
• With certain lenses, the resulting image may suffer some vignetting.
• The auto level compensation function is turned off as the default setting. When turned on, it offers a maximum compensation angle of ±2° (with the SR mechanism off) or ±1° (with the SR mechanism on).

Control panel
for speedy setting of shooting functions

The K-7 features a status screen, which allows you to check the setting of all shooting functions with a quick glance at the LCD monitor. Since this screen can be instantly switched to the control panel with pushbutton ease, changes can be made without wasting time. The screen also eliminates the need to press buttons or recall menus for individual functions, realizing a fully integrated camera-user interface that assures flawless, direct-access control of all shooting functions. Coupled with the extra-large 3.0-inch LCD monitor, it makes the K-7's operation smooth and effortless.

Impressive HDR images,
produced without a PC

The K-7's HDR (High Dynamic Range) function lets you produce visually impressive images with an extra-wide dynamic range by photographing the same scene at different exposures and synthesizing them into a single image. While conventional HDR processes require a personal computer and specialized software, the K-7 performs the same process without requiring either. It automatically takes three images at normal, under and over exposures, synthesizes them into a single image, and files the resulting image, all automatically.

Notes:
•The use of a tripod is recommended to ensure accurate alignment of the three images to be synthesized into one.
•A selection of normal and exaggerated synthesis is available.
•Images must be recorded in the JPEG recording format. The HDR function is not available during RAW-format shooting.
