Three Different Ways to Capture an Image, Depending on the User’s Preference and Skills
Picture Mode to Create a Specific Visual Effect
Just select one of seven Picture modes — Standard, Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Action, Night scene portrait and Standard flash-off — and you’re assured of beautiful images, all automatically, with the desired visual effect.
Standard mode Portrait mode Landscape mode Macro mode
Standard mode Portrait mode Landscape mode Macro mode
Handles all types of subjects and occasions, including casual snapshots. Produces beautiful portraits with natural skin tones. Captures spectacular scenery with clear blue skies and lively greens. Takes dramatic close-ups of insects and flowers by adjusting saturation and contrast.

Action mode Night scene portrait mode Standard flash-off mode
Action mode Night scene portrait mode Standard flash-off mode
Captures an active subject in focus with a high shutter speed. Beautifully illustrates both the subject in foreground with a flash and the nighttime illumination in background with a large aperture. Prevents a flash discharge and creates the distinctive atmosphere using ambient light only.
Auto Picture Program for Point-and-Shoot SLR Photography
Auto Picture Program for Point-and-Shoot SLR PhotographyWhen the mode dial is set to “AUTO PICT,” the *istDL automatically and instantly selects one of five distinctive Picture modes — Standard, Portrait, Landscape, Macro and Action — as soon as the camera is pointed at the subject and the shutter release button is half depressed. This assures SLR-quality images, frame after frame and on every occasion, with minimal effort.
Multi-Mode Exposure System for Greater Visual Control
Multi-Mode Exposure System for Greater Visual ControlProgrammed AE mode

Shutter-Priority AE mode
The user sets the desired shutter speed to freeze or stretch the subject’s movement; the camera automatically selects the corresponding aperture.

Metered Manual mode
Commonly employed by advanced photographers, this mode allows the user to manually set both aperture and shutter speed to create artistic and extraordinary visual effects.

Bulb mode
Often used in specialized applications, this mode lets the user expose the image for any duration, as long as the shutter release button is depressed.

Optimum Control of Light and Color Assured to Preserve Once-in-a-Lifetime Moments

Optimum Control of Light and Color Assured to Preserve Once-in-a-Lifetime MomentsTop Shutter Speed of 1/4000 Second
With a maximum shutter speed of 1/4000 second, you can not only freeze the action of a fast-moving subject, but also use larger apertures to reduce the depth of field for more dramatic images.

Responsive Shutter to Capture the Decisive Moment
Assisted by the high-speed AF system, the responsive shutter unit minimizes shutter-release time lag to help you preserve once-in-a-lifetime shutter opportunities.

Consecutive Shooting at 2.8 Frames per Second
In addition to single-frame advance, the *istDL offers consecutive advance of up to five frames at a speed of approximately 2.8 frames per second. This allows you to capture a series of an active subject’s images and select the best one afterwards.
